Education is a big focus at our salon, and we regularly offer complementary training sessions to help our stylists stay on top of trends and best practices. Good vibes only.

Get hands-on training with our Associates Program

If you’re excited to get your hands in hair, but you need a bit more guidance and support before you can fully unleash your magic, then this program may be the perfect next step. At the end of this self-paced, paid program, you will be a Level 1 stylist at Union Salon Tacoma and a supportive team of fun-loving stylists by your side.

ASSOCIATES PROGRAM

Our Associates Program offers a living wage plus tips. It’s self-paced, with trainees typically graduating to a Level 1 stylist within 6 to 9 months, depending on how hard you work and how much you crush it.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Two to three days per week, you’ll assist the salon owners, Madeline and Shea, and any other Level 4A stylists with shampooing, blow drying, toning and other salon tasks. This will help you gain the confidence and skill to work directly with guests’ hair while learning the ins-and-outs of the salon floor.

One day per week, you’ll have an “opportunity shift,” which is when you can invite friends, family, and other connections to your training chair. With time, you’ll earn more opportunity shifts as you gain recurring clientele and transition into a Level 1 stylist (yay!).

Two days per month, you’ll be required to attend an in-depth educational training session at the salon. During these hands-on training sessions, we’ll demonstrate advanced techniques, like how to apply balayage, extensions, updated permanent waves, and more. You will then take model clients to practice these services. All of our stylists are invited to attend these helpful classes, and they’ll be a part of your optional continuing education even after you graduate.

During your downtime, you’ll be able to practice on mannequins with feedback and support from our experienced stylists. You’ll need to prove that you have a strong foundation in haircutting and coloring techniques before you can graduate.

Licensing

To participate in our Associates Program, you need to be a licensed cosmetologist in the state of Washington.

Our salon is laidback, easygoing, and inclusive. We’re a tight knit team, sweeping each other’s spaces and helping out wherever needed. If you dream of being a rockstar stylist with an ego to match, then this is not the salon for you.
Motivated

Because this is a self-paced program, you will get out of it what you put in. We’re looking for motivated, hardworking associates who are excited to establish a career as a sought-after stylist at our salon.
Fashion Forward

We pride ourselves on staying up to date with new hair trends and styles, and we love it when our stylists are also motivated to explore and play with confidence. Rainbow-colored shag? Yes, please.
